The Japanese national team defeated their Indonesian hosts by four goals without reply.
On Friday, they played at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta, as part of the fifth round of Group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Indonesia's Justin Huebner, Takumi Minamino, Hidemasa Morita and Yukinari Sugawara scored in the 35th, 40th, 49th and 69th minutes.
With this victory, the Japanese team raised its score to 13 points and moved away from the top of Group C, seven points ahead of its closest rivals Australia, Saudi Arabia and China, who hold the second to fourth places with six points each, while Indonesia's score froze at three points in the sixth and last place in the group.
The Indonesian team will meet its Saudi counterpart in the sixth round next Tuesday, while the Japanese team will be guests of the Chinese team on the same day.
