SANA'A - SABA: The Operations Room of the Supreme Committee for Emergency Response and Flood Damage, led by Ammar al-Hareb, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Administration and Local and Rural Development for the Local Development Sector, convened on Wednesday to discuss precautionary measures against epidemics and rockslides.
During the meeting, al-Hareb emphasized the critical need to implement protective measures for citizens against potential epidemics, particularly malaria and dengue fever, which may rise following the heavy rains recently experienced in the country.
He highlighted the necessity for action from all relevant stakeholders, including governors, directors of districts, development coordinators, and various community members in the affected areas, to take decisive steps to eliminate mosquitoes, the primary vector for malaria transmission.
Al-Hareb also underscored the importance of supporting the Ministry of Health’s efforts to combat these diseases, which includes draining swamps, managing waste disposal, and maintaining cleanliness in streets and public spaces to mitigate the spread of malaria and dengue.
Additionally, he called for the establishment of a strategy to protect citizens from lightning strikes, which should involve raising awareness and educating the public, as well as installing lightning rods in vulnerable areas.
The representatives in the operations room were instructed to compile reports detailing activities and interventions conducted in recent months for submission to higher authorities.
The meeting also approved the formation of a joint technical team to assess the severity of rockslides and determine necessary interventions in collaboration with partners, ensuring the safety of citizens and minimizing human and material losses.
Al-Hareb stressed the importance of raising awareness and activating community initiatives to mitigate the impacts of floods and heavy rains, including clearing flood channels and implementing precautionary measures against frost and locust infestations to protect agricultural resources.
