MOSCOW - SABA :
On World Migraine Day, which falls on September 12 of each year, Russian Professor Vladimir Parfenov revealed its causes , danger and how to distinguish it from other types of headaches.
On Thursday, Russian media quoted Professor Parfenov as saying: "The symptoms of the disease are characteristic: A severe headache on one side of the head, accompanied by a pulse, nausea , even vomiting, and causes impairment in a person's job performance."
"Many people suffer from migraines 1-2 times a month, and there are those who suffer from them almost every day. So there is the concept of 'episodic migraine' less than 15 days, and more than 15 days is 'chronic migraine' .
The episodic type is divided into frequent and rare, as it can be without aura and then in addition to headaches the person suffers from other disorders, such as vision disorder, but it does not last long."
"There is no doubt that genetics plays a role in migraine, as it turns out that more than half of the cases are caused by a genetic predisposition, but not necessarily. It's not a genetic disease, it's just a genetic predisposition."
Parfenov noted that another factor causing migraines is stress, which must be controlled. The issue of nutrition is also important, as many food items help trigger the development of attacks: Cheese, nuts, chocolate, alcohol, etc.
Parfenov noted that in order to treat the patient, first of all, it must be determined whether this is a migraine or not, and whether it is episodic or chronic. It is also important to find out if the person suffers from other health issues such as muscle pain, sleep disorders, insomnia, anxiety , depression, then prescribe the necessary medication to treat the co-morbidities and, of course, the migraine.
