NEW DELHI September 04. 2024 (Saba) - Indian authorities said on Tuesday that at least 33 people had died from monsoon rains and floods in the south of the country over the past two days.

In India's Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states, many houses collapsed and were washed away by torrential rains, officials said, while floods disrupted road and rail traffic.

Telangana's chief official, Shanta Kumari, said the meteorological authority had issued a red alert for 11 districts and predicted more rain in the area.

More than 4,000 people have been relocated to 110 relief camps in Telangana since Monday.

Andhra Pradesh state official N. Chandrabo Naidu said aid teams were doing their best to evacuate residents from the flooded areas.

More than 170 people have been killed in India's six northeastern states by floods and mudslides caused by rains since June.
