GAZA August 26. 2024 (Saba) - The Ministry of Health in Gaza warned, on Monday, of the repercussions of running out of 60 percent of essential medicines in the besieged Strip due to the Zionist aggression, noting that the continuation of "mass killing" does not allow children to be vaccinated against polio.
Munir al-Barsh, Director General of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, confirmed in press statements that the Israeli occupation continues to prevent the entry of medicines and fuel through the crossings, noting that 60 percent of essential medicines are not available in the Strip.
He said that the circumstances do not allow for vaccinating children with the continuation of the mass killing practiced by the Israeli occupation, stressing the need for a ceasefire in order to make room for vaccinating children in Gaza, while warning that the spread of epidemics, especially polio, threatens neighboring countries.
A few days ago, the Ministry of Health called on international and UN institutions to "quickly intervene and provide the necessary needs of medicines and medical supplies," coinciding with the registration of an infant infected with polio in Gaza, which is the first case in 25 years in the besieged Strip.
The United Nations called for a seven-day humanitarian truce in the aggression that has been ongoing for more than ten months, in order to allow vaccination campaigns to be launched in the Strip.
