KYIV August 18. 2024 (Saba) - Ukrainian authorities announced on Sunday that they had thwarted a Russian attack on Kyiv using ballistic missiles, without mentioning any casualties or damage.
"Early in the morning, around 05:00 (02:00 GMT), the enemy used ballistic weapons to launch a missile attack on Kyiv," the Ukrainian capital's civil administration said on Telegram, adding that the missiles were intercepted as they approached the capital and prevented from reaching their targets.
On the other side of the border, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that its air defenses shot down five drones launched by Ukraine last night in the airspace of the border Belgorod and Rostov regions .
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Saturday that his forces were "reinforcing" their positions in the Kursk region, more than ten days after the launch of an unprecedented major offensive by Kiev on Russian territory.
