MOSCOW August 16. 2024 (Saba) - The Russian Ministry of Defense on Friday said its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed five Ukrainian drones over the Black Sea, and two drone boats that were heading towards the Crimean Peninsula, which Moscow annexed in 2014.
"During the past night, Ukrainian forces attempted to carry out an attack using drones on targets in Russian territory," the ministry said in a statement.
"The operating air defense systems intercepted and destroyed five drones over the Black Sea," it added, noting that firearms in the Black Sea destroyed two drone boats that were heading towards the Crimean Peninsula.
The Ukrainian armed forces target, almost daily, the Russian border areas in the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Voronezh and Rostov provinces, with drones and missiles.
