SANA'A August 10. 2024 (Saba) - The Public Works and Roads Office in Hamdan District of Sana'a province continues to make significant efforts to mitigate flood damage in the district.
In anticipation of the rainy season, early preparations were undertaken, including the provision of equipment to clear waste, level streets, and open manholes and culverts. These measures were taken to ensure readiness and prevent any emergencies.
From the onset of the season, the office's emergency teams have been actively working to remove flood damage and debris in various neighborhoods, streets, and areas, particularly in Shamlan area.
Over the past weeks, emergency teams in Hamdan district have been actively engaged in removing waste and dirt, as well as opening rain flood drains across several neighborhood units, including streets 681, 675, 674, and 676.
District director Jubran Ghobar informed the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) that since the onset of the rainy season, the district has heightened its state of readiness to tackle potential flood damages and minimize material losses caused by heavy rainfall, particularly in vulnerable neighborhoods and alleys.
Ghobar highlighted that the preparations included training rapid intervention teams and intensifying efforts to address rock and soil collapses, as well as the accumulation of waste in flood outlets and channels.
He commended the district's Public Works Office for its proactive response over the past two weeks, noting its crucial role in mitigating the impact of floods on citizens' homes, agricultural lands, and roads.
Acting Director of Public Works Eng. Abed Shaya reported that emergency teams have been actively addressing flood damage across the district. Their efforts include unclogging flood channels, removing dirt and obstacles, and clearing piles of waste and stagnant water from various residential neighborhoods. Additionally, they have been filling and leveling potholes in several streets.
Shaya emphasized that the focus of the emergency work has been on reopening streets in neighborhood units 681, 675, 676 A04, and 5G1. This involved filling and leveling holes, cleaning culverts, and ensuring rain drains and channels were properly leveled to prevent water from leaking into citizens' homes.
He also noted that measures have been taken to repair flood damage, including constructing new manholes and removing tons of waste from the neighborhoods of al-Jaouri, al-Sawda, al-Jafinat, al-Omari, Harat al-Iman, and al-Thalatheen.
Emergency teams worked tirelessly around the clock to clear debris and restore infrastructure following the floods. They removed large rocks, cleared away flood-damaged waste, unclogged drains, and swiftly repaired damaged roads and pipelines.
The acting director of Hamdan Works emphasized the continued readiness of emergency teams to prevent further damage. Their focus is on removing debris, ensuring road safety, and preventing culvert blockages to safeguard homes and property.
The director expressed gratitude for the support of the province's leadership, public works office, and local authorities in addressing citizens' needs and minimizing the impact of the floods. They urged citizens to cooperate by reporting any emergency situations.
