NIAMEY July 07. 2024 (Saba) - Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso on Saturday inked a convention to establish 'Sahel States Confederation', and adopted a treaty to create a confederation bringing the three African countries together.
The three leaders decided to pass a stage towards deeper consolidation for the member states, says a final declaration issued at the first summit for the 3-state group, that brought together Mali's President Assimi Goita, Niger's General Abdourahmane Tchiani, Burkina Faso's Captain Ibrahim Traore in Niamey.
While Mali will preside the confederation throughout its first year, Burkina Faso will host the first extraordinary meeting for the coalition's ministers, the declaration said.
The three leaders agreed to establish a bank for intra-investments, and underlined the need for coordinated diplomacy and common voice to speak for their countries, it added.
