Sana’a - Saba:
Sana’a University’s presidency held a meeting on Thursday, chaired by the First Deputy Prime Minister, Scholar Mohammed Miftah, and attended by the Ministers of Education and Scientific Research, Hassan Al-Saadi; Youth and Sports, Dr. Mohammed Al-Mawlid; Social Affairs and Labor, Samir Bajaila; and the University President, Dr. Mohammed Al-Bukhit.
The meeting focused on discussing the conditions of student housing at Sana’a University and ways to enhance the educational environment for students, as well as addressing the challenges the university faces in completing the essential components of the educational process.
The First Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to providing a suitable educational environment at the university, extending beyond classrooms and laboratories to include service and housing facilities, which are fundamental to the success of the educational process.
He stressed that providing safe and well-furnished student housing is a necessity, especially for students coming from distant provincee or abroad. He urged the concerned authorities to expedite efforts to renovate and furnish the university’s housing facilities to ensure their readiness as soon as possible.
For his part, the Minister of Education and Scientific Research described Sana’a University as the national mother university, Yemen’s leading higher education institution, and a key educational and cultural landmark for the entire country.
He pointed out that improving student housing services would positively impact students' stability and psychological well-being, contributing to their continued academic achievement in a suitable environment.
Meanwhile, the President of Sana’a University presented a clear picture of the current state of student housing, explaining that the residential buildings have not undergone any renovation or furnishing for many years, making them unsuitable for accommodating students in their current condition.
He noted that the university considers housing rehabilitation a priority no less important than curriculum development or classroom improvements, as housing is one of the three pillars of a sound university education: teaching, the university environment, and support services.
Additionally, the University’s Director General of Projects, Engineer Abdulhakim Shamsan, submitted a technical report on the urgent needs of student housing, including infrastructure repairs, room furnishing, improvements to water, electricity, and sanitation services, and streamlining housing procedures for students—especially given their increasing numbers and diverse origins.
The attendees affirmed that Sana’a University is making diligent efforts to fulfill the requirements of an integrated university environment, with a focus on graduating students who are academically, environmentally, and psychologically qualified. This comes amid clear government support, reflecting a deep understanding of the importance of investing in human development through higher education.
