UN confirms presence in Gaza, continues aid efforts amid challenges

NEW YORK June 27. 2024 (Saba) - The United Nations has clarified that despite ongoing challenges in distributing humanitarian aid in Gaza, it has not withdrawn from the region, countering recent reports suggesting otherwise.

Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the international organization, addressed concerns during a press briefing on Wednesday night, stating, "The United Nations is persevering in its efforts to deliver aid despite significant risks."

Dujarric acknowledged that there has been no progress in addressing the improvements requested from Israel thus far.

Responding to speculations about a potential suspension of aid distribution if Israel does not meet demands, Dujarric affirmed, "We have no plans to withdraw from Gaza."

Regarding aid distribution from the American floating dock, Dujarric mentioned that the UN is assessing security conditions and has not yet initiated distributions due to unmet prerequisites.

He emphasized the UN's ongoing commitment to navigating a challenging operational environment and highlighted the simplicity of their basic demands.

Dujarric clarified that UN operations do not involve cooperation with the Israeli military, emphasizing that various methods have been attempted to facilitate aid distribution.

"The pathway to success remains through a ceasefire," Dujarric underscored, reiterating the importance of unimpeded humanitarian access and the release of all detainees.
