Washington - Saba:
The Republican-led US Senate on Friday rejected a Democratic attempt to prevent President Donald Trump from using further military force against Iran, hours after the president announced he would consider bombing Iran again.
The vote was 53-47 against the War Powers Resolution, which requires congressional approval for further military action against Iran. All senators cast their votes, but voting is still ongoing.
It is worth noting that Israel launched a blatant aggression against Iran on June 13, targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, killing a number of military commanders and nuclear scientists, and destroying homes, civilian targets, and vital infrastructure. Iran responded to the Israeli aggression with missile strikes against strategic targets in Israel. The US subsequently bombed three Iranian nuclear facilities: Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. This was followed by an Iranian attack on the US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar on June 24, before US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between the two sides.
The Israeli aggression against Iran was met with Arab and international reactions condemning the violation of state sovereignty and calling for calm, resumption of dialogue, and avoiding the region sliding into a full-scale war.
The US aggression against Iran also provoked negative reactions internationally, with UN Secretary-General António Guterres describing the US strikes as a dangerous escalation in the region and a direct threat to international peace and security.
