US Republican lawmaker says FBI was planning to assassinate Trump

US Republican lawmaker says FBI was planning to assassinate Trump

WASHINGTON May 22. 2024 (Saba) - In a controversial statement, US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has accused the Department of Justice and the FBI of orchestrating a plot to assassinate former President Donald Trump.

Greene alleged that the plan was devised during a raid on Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida back in 2022.

Taking to "X" platform on Wednesday, Taylor Greene asserted, "The Department of Justice and the FBI under (US President Joe) Biden conspired to assassinate President Trump and greenlit the operation. Do people understand the gravity of this situation?! How will Republicans respond? They've attempted to impeach our House Speaker (Republican Mike Johnson) who funded Biden's Department of Justice and FBI, but Democrats thwarted the effort."

Accompanying her post was a screenshot of a statement made by Trump on his social network, Truth Social. Trump claimed, "I've received reports that Joe Biden's Department of Justice authorized the FBI to use lethal force during the illegal and unconstitutional raid at Mar-a-Lago," asserting, "We now have confirmation. Joe Biden poses a significant threat to democracy."

The raid on Trump's Florida residence in August 2022 resulted in the seizure of over a hundred documents, 17 of which were classified as "top secret." Subsequently, criminal charges were filed against the former president in a Miami court for the "mishandling" of classified information. Trump potentially faces up to 400 years in prison along with a hefty fine.

However, despite facing legal challenges, Trump remains eligible to participate in the 2024 presidential elections. He contends that the urgency of his duties and heavy workload prevented him from promptly returning the classified documents to the White House.
