Palestinian journalists says Zionist enemy arrested about 100 journalists since October 7

Palestinian journalists says Zionist enemy arrested about 100 journalists since October 7

RAMALLAH April 18. 2024 (Saba) - The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate has confirmed that the Zionist enemy forces have arrested about 100 Palestinian journalists since the beginning of the Zionist-American aggression on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023.

The Palestinian Information Center quoted the Freedoms Committee of the Journalists Syndicate in a statement on Wednesday as saying that “Ten female journalists have been arrested, noting that the Zionist enemy continues to arrest four female journalists in its prisons.”

The committee noted that the ferocity of the arrest targeting occurred in October and November 2023; when about 50 journalists were arbitrarily arrested, and about 40 of them are still in Zionist prisons.

The Freedoms Committee added “Most of the journalists were beaten at the moment of arrest, and although there were medical conditions among them, they did not receive any kind of treatment or health follow-up, which put their lives in danger.”

It warned that prisoners in enemy prisons are subjected to beatings, humiliation, threats, and deprivation of the most basic rights, in clear violation of the Geneva Conventions and all international norms.

The union stated that before the military aggression against Gaza on October 7, 13 journalists were in the prisons of the Zionist enemy. Most of them are under unjust administrative detention, and some are still detained awaiting military courts.

The Freedoms Committee warned of the unknown fate of many detained journalist colleagues from the Gaza Strip in enforced disappearance and a real threat to their lives, noting that some of them had been completely cut off from news, making them people with an unknown fate.

It called on the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Executive Director of UNESCO, and the International Federation of Journalists to intervene with all relevant parties to stop this crime against male and female prisoners of war in the prisons of the Zionist enemy.
