Erdogan: Haniyeh will visit Türkiye this weekend and confirm Ankara's support for Palestinian cause

ANKARA April 17, 2024 (Saba) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Wednesday that he will meet with the head of Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, “this weekend.”

"The leader of the Palestinian issue will be my guest this weekend," Erdogan told his party's representatives in the General Assembly.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed on Wednesday that “Ankara did not sell or allow the sale of any military equipment to Israel.”

Erdogan said, in a speech before his parliamentary bloc, that "Turkey's position on the Palestinian issue is firm," stressing the need to immediately work on a ceasefire in Gaza.

He added: "No one can question our sensitivity towards Palestine, as our lives have gained meaning with the Palestinian issue," continuing: "We will continue to defend the Palestinian struggle and be the voice of the oppressed Palestinian people."

The Turkish President explained that "Hamas represents the national forces that fought the Turkish War of Independence, stressing that he realizes that saying this carries a heavy price."
