CANBERRA Aug. 27. 2023 (Saba) - A US military plane has crashed during a training mission in northern Australia, according to official sources and local media on Sunday.
Ambulance services reported a "plane crash" on Melville Island, 60 km north of the Australian mainland, on Sunday morning.
Sky News Australia reported that a V-22 Osprey helicopter crashed off the coast of Darwin with about 20 US Marines on board.
For its part, ABC public network reported that a number of people were rescued after an "Osprey" plane crashed during training exercises near the northern Tiwi Islands.
This aircraft is capable of vertical take-off and landing, and has movable wings that can be directed upwards to give it the ability of the helicopter to maneuver or forward to fly horizontally as a regular plane.
The plane was participating in a series of joint combat exercises conducted by the US and Australian militaries.
