HODEIDA, Jan. 13 (Saba) - A United Nations team on Thursday visited the ports of al-Salif and Ras Issa in Hodeida province and was briefed on the situation in the ports.

The visit is one many others to be paid by United Nations representatives to the province's ports, after the allegations of the coalition of aggression of using the ports for military purposes.

The team listened to an explanation of the working mechanism in the port by Deputy Director of al-Salif Port Eng. Hussein Farea, who stressed that the port is only open to the humanitarian works.

Farea stressed the importance of the international team’s visit to the port to closely see its activity in receiving civilian ships loaded with food and humanitarian aid, and about the civilian facilities that the forces of aggression claim to use for military purposes.

He deemed the allegations of the aggression forces are mere fabrications and pretexts, stressing that al-Salif port is free of any military manifestations.

He affirmed the port is subject to continuous UN visits and abides by all international marine requirements and codes, and the procedures in force in international ports, and it is devoid of any armed manifestations, military barracks, or warehouses for assembling weapons.

Farea pointed out that the threat of the aggressive countries to target the port will have catastrophic results on the Yemeni people who depend on it mainly to supply relief, medicine, and oil supplies.

For his part, the head of the visiting UN team indicated the visit to al-Salif port falls within the activities of the United Nations mnitoring mission to see the extent of the port authorities' commitment to implementing navigational regulations and laws, and not to use it for military purposes that threaten the security of maritime navigation in the Red Sea.

He stressed the continuation of support to end the suffering of the Yemeni people in light of the continuation of the war.
