Geneva – Saba:
UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned on Monday the killing of six Palestinian journalists in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza City, north of the besieged enclave, and called for an 'independent and impartial' investigation into the matter.
This was stated by UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric at a press conference at UN Headquarters in Geneva, according to the UN News website.
Dujarric said, "These recent killings highlight the grave risks journalists continue to face while covering this ongoing conflict."
He added, "The Secretary-General calls for an independent and impartial investigation into these recent killings."
The spokesman stressed the need to respect and protect journalists and media workers and allow them to carry out their work freely without fear or harassment.
On Sunday evening, the Israeli occupation army targeted a tent near al-Shifa Hospital, west of Gaza City, killing six journalists, including four from Al Jazeera, including correspondents Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qreiqea.
