Brussels – Saba:
European Commissioner for Equality Jada Lahbib considered Israel's killing of journalists in Gaza, including Anas al-Sharif, a direct blow to press freedom on Monday.
In a statement posted on her X account, Lahbib condemned the assassination of six journalists, including four from Al Jazeera, the latest targeting of journalists in the ongoing genocide perpetrated by the Israeli entity for the 22nd month in the Gaza Strip.
Lahbib said: "We are horrified by the killing of Al Jazeera journalists in Gaza, including correspondent Anas Al-Sharif," adding that it is a "direct blow to press freedom."
The European official stressed the need to protect civilians and the press at all times.
On Sunday evening, the Israeli occupation army targeted a tent near al-Shifa Hospital, west of Gaza City, killing six journalists, including four from Al Jazeera, including correspondents Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qreiqea, according to the government media office in Gaza on Monday.
