The Kremlin announced on Wednesday that Russia and Malaysia share similar positions on many global and regional issues and interact actively at the United Nations and other multilateral formats.
Sputnik quoted the Kremlin press office, citing the materials from the upcoming talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Malaysian King Sultan Ibrahim, as saying: "The two countries, which share similar or identical positions on many pressing issues on the global and regional agenda, interact actively at the United Nations and other multilateral formats."
The Kremlin press office added: "Malaysia is a reliable, time-tested partner of Russia in the Asia-Pacific region, an accredited member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and one of the leaders of the Islamic world."
Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet with Malaysian King Sultan Ibrahim on Wednesday, who arrived in Russia on Tuesday at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This is the first visit by a Malaysian king in the history of relations between the two countries.
According to a statement from the Malaysian Royal Palace, the Malaysian King's visit program includes a meeting with President Putin and other official activities, in addition to visits to the Central Research Institute of Automotive and Motor Vehicles (NAMI) and the Tochka Kebenya Technology and Innovation Center.
From Moscow, the Malaysian King will travel to Kazan, the capital of the Russian Republic of Tatarstan, where he is scheduled to hold an official meeting with President Rustam Minnikhanov and visit the Kazan Helicopter Plant, according to the Malaysian news agency Bernama.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim described the Malaysian King's visit to Russia as historic, noting that it is of utmost importance, as King Sultan Ibrahim will be the first Malaysian King to visit Russia on a state visit since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1967.
