Gaza – Saba:
Clemence Laguarda, Humanitarian Affairs Coordinator at Oxfam International, stated on Sunday that the situation in Gaza amounts to genocide, describing the conditions as "unprecedentedly catastrophic."
In an exclusive statement to Al Jazeera, Laguarda confirmed that people are starving to death amid a complete collapse of the healthcare system, with humanitarian organizations unable to reach those in need.
She added that Gazans are dying from preventable diseases due to severe shortages of medicine and medical supplies, as well as Israel’s obstruction of proper medical care.
Laguarda emphasized that Israeli authorities are blocking all forms of humanitarian aid—including food, medicine, and essential equipment—from entering Gaza, asserting that these actions constitute genocide.
The Oxfam coordinator further noted that Israeli forces are even denying UN personnel access to assess the situation on the ground, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis and hindering effective relief efforts.
She urged the international community to act immediately and pressure Israel to open crossings, allowing aid to reach over two million people at risk of death in Gaza.
With U.S. and European support, the Israeli military has continued its genocidal war on Gaza since October 7, 2023, killing 60,839 Palestinian civilians —mostly women and children—and injuring 149,588 others, according to preliminary figures. Thousands more remain trapped under rubble or in streets, unreachable by rescue teams.
