Stockholm – Saba:
The Swedish capital, Stockholm, witnessed a fresh protest on Saturday demanding an end to what demonstrators described as the "genocide" being committed by the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip.
Hundreds of protesters gathered in Odenplan Square, in response to calls from civil society organizations, urging the Swedish government to take action to stop Israeli occupation attacks on Gaza.
Protesters held signs reading “Children in Gaza are being killed,” “Schools and hospitals are being bombed,” and “Stop food shortages,” expressing their outrage over the government’s failure to condemn Israel’s operations in the besieged strip.
Swedish activist Kirsten Etman, who participated in the protest, described the situation in Gaza as genocide. “I was in the West Bank 10 years ago and saw with my own eyes what is happening there,” she said, according to Turkey’s Anadolu Agency. “I want to do something to stop this genocide against the Palestinian people. That’s why I regularly join these protests,” she added, expressing strong belief that Palestine will one day free itself from Israeli occupation.
Etman criticized her government’s stance, saying: “Our government has done nothing for Palestine, and that is a great shame. They not only disappoint us, but they also follow racist policies. Neither the politicians nor the people are doing enough to stand up to the horrifying genocide taking place in Gaza.”
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza, resulting in more than 208,000 Palestinians killed or injured, most of them women and children, in addition to over 9,000 missing persons, hundreds of thousands of displaced families, and a famine that has claimed many lives.
