Rabat – Saba:
Dozens of human rights advocates in Morocco launched a hunger strike on Saturday to protest the Israeli-imposed starvation campaign against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
The strike, held at the headquarters of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights in Rabat—the country’s largest human rights organization—was organized by the Moroccan Front in Support of Palestine. According to Anadolu Agency, the protest runs from 09:00 to 22:00 GMT.
During the event, which included speeches, chants, and discussions in solidarity with Palestine, Abdel-Samad Fathi, Deputy Coordinator of the Moroccan Front in Support of Palestine, stated that the hunger strike comes "at a time when the Palestinian cause is going through an extremely difficult and painful phase, particularly in Gaza."
He described the genocide in Gaza as unprecedented in history in terms of scale, brutality, and duration, all occurring in full view of the world. Fathi added, "Humanity is going through a very dangerous phase—a test of its very essence," emphasizing that human values are being slaughtered by the crimes taking place in the Gaza Strip.
"The Zionist entity is besieging women, children, and infants, preventing them from eating, and even killing civilians as they attempt to obtain food," he said.
In the coming days, civil organizations are expected to hold further hunger strikes, sit-ins, and demonstrations in response to calls made earlier this week.
Palestinians in Gaza are facing an unprecedented famine following the Israeli military's closure of border crossings in early March, and the imposition of severe restrictions on the entry of food, aid, fuel, and medicine.
Over time, all food resources in Gaza have been depleted, markets have emptied, and finding a loaf of bread has become nearly impossible. The limited goods still available have soared in price, and starvation has now become one of the deadliest threats in the Strip.
Since October 7, 2023, and with American and European backing, the Israeli military has been carrying out acts of genocide in Gaza, resulting in the martyrdom of 60,332 Palestinian civilians—mostly women and children—and the injury of 147,643 others, according to non-final figures. Thousands remain trapped under rubble or in the streets, unreachable by rescue and medical teams.
