New York – Saba:
The rotating President of the UN Security Council, Panama’s permanent representative Eloy Alvaro de Alba, stated there are currently no official indications that the European Troika (UK, Germany, France) intends to activate the “trigger mechanism” against Iran.
He noted that Iran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and recent attacks on Iran complicate the issue, which will be discussed in upcoming Security Council meetings.
The European countries have threatened to use this mechanism under the nuclear deal framework, whose legitimacy has weakened following recent Israeli and US attacks on Iran.
