Hodeida - Saba:
Hodeida Undersecretary for Northern Districts Affairs Ghaleb Hamzah on Thursday paid a visit to inspect the conditions of displaced families affected by a fire that broke out Wednesday in Deir al-Hindi camp in al-Qanawis district.
Accompanied by al-Qanawis District Director Mohammed al-Qawzi, the Undersecretary reviewed the extent of damage caused by the fire, which resulted from the explosion of a household gas cylinder. The blaze destroyed 18 makeshift straw homes, damaged household belongings, food supplies, furniture, and also led to the death of some livestock.
During the visit, urgent shelter and food assistance was provided to each affected family with support from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in coordination with the Yemen Red Crescent Society’s Hodeida branch.
Hamzah praised the swift response of the Red Crescent, appreciating the humanitarian efforts to ease the suffering of affected families. He also called on humanitarian and relief organizations to quickly intervene and help meet the urgent needs of the victims.
For his part, Executive Director of the Yemen Red Crescent Society in the governorate Jaber al-Razhi said the intervention comes as part of the emergency humanitarian response to urgent cases. He affirmed that coordination with local authorities and humanitarian partners would continue to provide further support and help address the aftermath of the fire.
