Hodeida - Saba:
A workshop was held on Wednesday in Hodeida governorate to discuss implementation mechanisms for the Agricultural Reclamation and Empowerment Project.
The event was organized by the local branch of the General Authority for Land, Survey, and Urban Planning, in coordination with local authorities and the Agricultural Cooperative Union’s branch, under the slogan “Agricultural Renaissance through Community Partnership.”
The workshop brought together representatives from the Authority’s offices and agricultural cooperatives in ten districts across the eastern and southern areas.
Participants were introduced to the concepts, procedures, and phases of project implementation, as well as mechanisms for empowering farmers to utilize state-owned lands for cultivating a variety of crops.
In his address, Hodeida undersecretary Ahmed al-Bishri highlighted the strategic importance of the project in strengthening cooperation between the Authority and agricultural cooperatives, aiming to achieve an agricultural renaissance that benefits all targeted districts. He noted that the governorate possesses extensive agricultural land in need of reclamation and optimal use, particularly with the onset of the new farming season.
He affirmed the governorate leadership’s commitment to facilitating the project’s success and enhancing the role of cooperatives in motivating farmers to take initiative and benefit from state-owned lands through clear and transparent mechanisms.
Meanwhile, Hodeida undersecretary for Services Affairs Mohammed Halisi underscored the project’s significance in enhancing local food security. He stressed the importance of adhering to technical and administrative standards in land reclamation and directing resources toward the objectives of sustainable agricultural development.
For his part, Secretary-General of the Agricultural Cooperative Union Mohammed al-Qahoum explained that the cooperatives will act as a crucial link between farmers and land offices—receiving applications and organizing the empowerment process in line with the project's guidelines to ensure effective, on-the-ground results.
Additionally, Mohsen Ali, Deputy Director General of the Authority’s branch and Project Manager, delivered a detailed presentation on the project’s components and implementation framework. He emphasized that the project is aligned with national directives to expand agricultural production chains and make use of idle lands suited to specific crop types.
The workshop was attended by the Agricultural Union’s representative in the governorate, Muhammad Franti, along with several senior officials from the Authority and leaders of agricultural associations. The event featured introductory presentations from agricultural value chain officers focusing on grain and date crops, dairy products, and cotton.
