Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources Dr. Radhwan Al-Ruba'i met with Dhamar Governor Mohammed Al-Bukhayti to discuss ways to enhance agricultural cooperation and expand cultivation of grains and legumes. The meeting also addressed encouraging quality experiments in producing fertilizers, soil amendments and animal feed.
The meeting was attended by Engineer Hadi Quray'a, Chairman of the General Authority for Water Resources and Facilities.
Minister Al-Ruba'i stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to expand agricultural activities and cash crop cultivation, in line with the directives of the revolutionary leadership, the Supreme Political Council and the government to achieve food security and self-sufficiency.
The minister praised the role of the local authority in Dhamar Governorate in supporting the agricultural sector and adopting quality agricultural projects that contribute to improving agricultural performance. He emphasized encouraging farmers to adopt best practices to locally produce agricultural inputs.
Al-Ruba'i affirmed the ministry's interest in and support for efforts aimed at improving the performance of the agricultural sector and expanding projects to produce agricultural inputs, while reducing production costs by relying on local products instead of imports.
For his part, Governor Al-Bukhayti reviewed the local authority's efforts to enhance the role of the agricultural sector and support agricultural activities and projects.
He mentioned the local authority's initiative to produce and distribute 400,000 seedlings of sidr and camphor trees across all districts, in addition to distributing 300,000 fruit seedlings and producing coffee, avocado and other seedlings in agricultural nurseries.
The governor also addressed efforts to expand cultivation of grains and legumes, forming and supporting agricultural cooperatives, and the local authority's activities and interventions in protecting water resources.
He stressed the importance of strengthening efforts and cooperation to adopt agricultural projects and initiatives, and mobilizing capabilities to serve agricultural programs through carefully studied steps that meet community aspirations and translate the leadership's orientations in this field.
