New York - Saba:
The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazaryny, said that the situation in the Gaza Strip, which is being subjected to genocide by Israel, is absolutely horrific.
Lazaryny explained in a press statement on Wednesday that international interest in Gaza has declined significantly since Israel began its attacks on Iran on June 13, according to the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA).
He added that Israeli attacks are being carried out daily in the Gaza Strip, and that citizens are still being displaced on a daily basis and feel completely besieged by the aid regime imposed by Israel.
Lazaryny continued: "People there are asking: Do I let my family die of hunger? Or do I risk my life to reach humanitarian aid? We are facing a horrific situation in Gaza."
He added, "We urgently need to de-escalate the situation in a region that cannot tolerate a new conflict. I hope that the ceasefire will allow us to refocus on reaching a truce in Gaza, releasing prisoners, lifting the blockade, and providing uninterrupted, large-scale humanitarian aid."
He pointed out that UNRWA has demonstrated its ability to combat hunger during previous truces, and that humanitarian aid is waiting outside the Gaza Strip's borders and is ready to enter.
With American and European support, the Israeli enemy army has been committing genocidal crimes in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, resulting in the deaths of 56,077 Palestinian civilians, the majority of whom are children and women, and the injury of 131,848 others, as of yesterday. This is a preliminary toll, with thousands of victims still buried under the rubble and on the streets, unable to be reached by ambulances and rescue teams.
