Former Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana announced his retirement from football on Wednesday, stressing that he was proud of his playing career.
Lallana, 37, played for Southampton, Bournemouth, Liverpool, Brighton, and the England national team, with whom he made 34 international appearances and scored three goals.
Lallana spent most of his career with Southampton, making his first-team debut in 2006. He returned for a second stint in 2004, after playing for other clubs for ten years. He finished his career with 283 appearances for Southampton and scoring 60 goals.
Lallana wrote on Instagram: "As I draw the curtain on my playing career, I do so with indescribable gratitude and pride."
He added: "I couldn't be more grateful for the opportunities I've been given and the support I've received along the way."
He added, "In a career like this, you owe so much to so many. It's impossible to mention everyone by name, but I hope everyone who has helped me knows how grateful I am. I wouldn't have gotten here without you."
He continued, "I am proud of my career as a player, and I have no regrets about any part of it. I embrace all the good and bad moments, because they have shaped me and made me who I am today." He emphasized, "I am excited for what the future holds."
