Ukrainian media reported a new series of explosions in the capital, Kyiv, as airstrike warnings continued, and videos documenting the explosions have been circulated.
"Explosions are being heard in Kyiv," the Ukrainian TV channel "Obshchestvennoye" wrote on its Telegram channel, according to reports from Russia's RIA Novosti and RT.
Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klymenko wrote on Telegram: "Several vital infrastructure facilities were damaged by explosions in Kyiv," without providing any data on the number of damaged facilities or any further details.
The Ukrainian newspaper "Strana" reported large fires in the Darnytskyi and Solomyanske districts of Kyiv. TSN news agency also reported severe air pollution in the capital.
These are the third explosions of their kind to hit the Ukrainian capital overnight, with explosions also reported in Odessa.
Videos circulating showed a thick plume of smoke rising from Kyiv following the Russian strikes. This was preceded by online reports of an intense attack on Kyiv's Zhulyany Airport.
According to the Ukrainian emergency alert map, an air alert remained in effect in Kyiv for more than eight hours.
It is worth noting that in response to Kyiv forces' attacks on civilian facilities, Russian forces are carrying out precision strikes on Ukrainian military-industrial facilities and locations where Ukrainian personnel and equipment are stationed.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the military "is not targeting residential buildings or social institutions."
