Sana'a - Saba:
Head of the National Committee for Prisoners' Affairs Abdulqader al-Murtada on Monday confirmed that the committee has not received any official response from the other party since announcing its call for an exchange deal that includes all prisoners.
Al-Murtada said in a statement to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), "Since we announced our call for an exchange deal that includes all prisoners three days ago, we have not received any official response from the other party, except for some media statements from Hadi al-Haij, the Islah Party's representative on the prisoner issue, in which he criticized our media coverage of the issue and then set a condition for accepting our call: first disclosing the fate of Mohammed Qahtan."
He also stressed "that those delaying the disclosure of Mohammed Qahtan's fate are Islah Party in Marib, who have refused to disclose the fate of hundreds of our prisoners for ten years, preventing them from communicating with their families, and denying them visits. We are prepared to disclose his fate if they disclose the fate of our prisoners in their prisons."
He said, "An agreement was previously reached regarding Mohammed Qahtan during the last Muscat round, in a well-known agreement sponsored by the United Nations and signed by both parties. Those refusing to implement it are the Islah Party, and we affirm our readiness to implement it at any time."
Al-Murtada explained, "If they had sincere intentions to resolve this issue and end the suffering of their prisoners, then the comprehensive exchange we have offered will guarantee the release of all their prisoners, including Mohammed Qahtan, without the need to set any conditions."
He pointed out, "What prompted us to discuss the issue in the media is their intransigence, their closing of all doors to dialogue, their refusal to hold any round of negotiations, and their obstruction of all efforts by local and international mediators."
The head of the National Committee for Prisoners' Affairs pointed out that they fear discussing the issue in the media. Because they want to keep things hidden behind the scenes and prevent people from knowing the truth, so they can manipulate the families of their captives and deceive them into believing they care for their captive sons and are working to free them.
He added, "We affirm that with our announcement, we have established proof against them and exposed them before everyone. Anyone who denies what we have presented should now take the initiative to implement this comprehensive, inclusive deal that excludes no one to demonstrate the extent of our seriousness and sincerity."
