Maghreb Resilience Convoy set off from the Tunisian capital on Monday morning, heading to the Gaza Strip in an attempt to break the Israeli siege on the Strip and in solidarity with the Palestinian people. Hundreds of activists participated in the convoy.
Participants in the convoy began gathering on Mohammed V Avenue in Tunis at 4:00 a.m. Tunis time to complete registration procedures and arrange logistical matters, according to Anadolu Agency.
The convoy actually departed from Tunisian territory at 8:30 a.m. Tunis time, and was seen off by hundreds of Tunisian citizens who raised both Palestinian and Tunisian flags.
The Joint Action for Palestine Coordination Committee in Tunisia said in a statement last Saturday that a Maghreb land convoy, including thousands of volunteers, will set off for the Gaza Strip on Monday to demand an end to the genocide committed by the Israeli enemy, the breaking of the siege, and the entry of aid.
The coordination committee added, "The Maghreb Convoy of Steadfastness to Break the Siege on Gaza will depart on Monday from the capital, Tunis, the city of Sousse (east), Sfax, and Gabes to the city of Ben Guerdane (south), heading towards the Gaza Strip, passing through Libya and Egypt, to express solidarity with the besieged Palestinian people in the Strip and deliver humanitarian aid."
Furthermore, the convoy's organizers announced on Monday that the land convoy is expected to arrive in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, next Thursday, while it will arrive in the Egyptian city of Rafah on Sunday, as planned.
With American and European support, the Israeli enemy army has been committing genocidal crimes in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, resulting in the deaths of 54,927 Palestinian citizens, the majority of whom are children and women, and the injury of 126,615 others. This is a preliminary toll, with thousands of victims still buried under the rubble and on the roads, unable to be reached by ambulance and rescue crews.
