Vice Chairman and Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Mohammad Eslami has announced the completion of the installation of the second loop of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant (southern Iran) on schedule, stressing that the nuclear industry is a symbol of the country's progress, and that its achievements are tangibly available to the people.
According to the Iranian News Agency (IRNA), Eslami made this statement to reporters on Monday after meeting with members of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Islamic Consultative Assembly.
He explained that this visit aimed to consult and develop the applications of nuclear technology in society, reflecting the committee's interest in protecting the interests of the Iranian people.
He emphasized that the nuclear industry has moved beyond the stage of research and studies to the stage of achieving technological and industrial goals. He added that this industry is not only a symbol of the country's progress and strength, but its achievements are also tangibly available to the people, and that the process of developing and benefiting from it is increasing.
Referring to the progress made in the construction of the second and third units of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, the Iranian vice chairman stated: "As the people have observed, the installation of the second ring of the reactor building No. 2 at the Bushehr plant began on Sunday.
The first ring was previously installed and its concrete poured successfully." Eslami explained: "The diameter of the reactor wall is approximately 2.5 meters, and the length of the second row of rings is 11 meters, and they are currently being installed."
Eslami stated that this process will continue, stage by stage, until the structure is completed, reaching a height of 90 meters.
He added that work is proceeding according to the established plan and the directives of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution regarding the production of 20,000 megawatts of nuclear electricity, a goal that was proposed in 2007 and continues to receive great attention from His Eminence.
Eslami emphasized that during this period, with the available mechanisms, the design for the production of 20,000 megawatts of nuclear electricity has been fully completed.
Field studies have been completed, the required systems have been selected, and the follow-up process is proceeding with great speed and attention.
