California - Saba:
The California governor has announced his intention to sue US President Donald Trump over his decision to deploy the National Guard to Los Angeles amid protests against immigration policy.
Governor Gavin Newsom wrote on social media: "This is exactly what Donald Trump wanted. He ignited the crisis, then illegally tried to federalize the National Guard. The order he signed isn't just for California; it gives him the ability to enter any state and do the same thing. We're going to sue."
Earlier, during an interview with MSNBC, the governor stated that he intended to sue the Trump administration over the deployment of the National Guard to suppress protests in California.
He added that US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers did not coordinate their actions with him.
A US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) sweep to apprehend undocumented immigrants in downtown Los Angeles on June 7 turned into clashes with protesters.
On the same day, California Governor Gavin Newsom threatened that the state might withhold federal taxes in retaliation for potential federal funding cuts from the Trump administration.
On June 8, White House press secretary Carolyn Leavitt announced that 2,000 National Guard troops would be deployed to the city due to the protests.
"Two motorcyclists attempted to break through the barriers at the intersection of Alameda and Temple. Two officers were injured in the collision," police said in a statement posted on X platform. "The drivers were arrested, and the injured officers are being treated at the scene."
Police also reported that protesters blocked roads and set vehicles on fire.
Firefighters are working to reach the scene.
Authorities have acknowledged that the protests constituted an unauthorized gathering.
California is a traditional Democratic stronghold, and Trump has repeatedly criticized it.
The Trump administration has previously canceled $126.4 million in flood prevention projects and criticized the California government's actions in combating wildfires.
In his first address as the 47th president of the United States, on his inauguration day on January 20, Trump promised to immediately halt the flow of illegal immigrants and begin the process of deporting millions of them. He also declared a national emergency due to the situation at the southern border of the United States.
