The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Sunday that its forces had taken control of the town of Zarya in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), and that Russian units had reached the border with Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.
The ministry said in its daily statement: "As a result of active and decisive actions by units of the Southern Forces, the town of Zarya in the Donetsk People's Republic has been liberated," according to the Russian Sputnik news agency.
The statement added: "The manpower and equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were defeated in the areas of Svyato-Pokrovskoye, Zhvanovka, Chasov Yar, Siversk, Bazino, Minkovka, Kramatorsk, Privolye, Plishevka, and Konstantinovka in the Donetsk People's Republic."
It continued: "The enemy's losses amounted to more than 170 soldiers, five vehicles, and five field guns. Two electronic warfare stations and an ammunition depot were also destroyed."
The statement added: "Units of the 90th Tank Division of the Center Group of Forces have reached the western border of the Donetsk People's Republic and are continuing to develop the offensive in the territory of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast."
The statement continued: "Formations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were defeated in the areas of Dmitrov, Krasnoarmeysk, Petrovskoye, Novotoretskoye, Novopavlovka, Novonikolavka, Alekseevka, Novokrainka, and Novosergievka in the Donetsk People's Republic."
The Russian Defense Ministry said in its statement: "The enemy's losses amounted to 530 soldiers, one infantry fighting vehicle, one US-made M113 armored personnel carrier, seven armored fighting vehicles, four vehicles, and 10 artillery pieces, including a US-made 155mm Paladin self-propelled gun and a French-made Caesar self-propelled gun. An ammunition depot was also destroyed."
