Brussels – Saba:
Maja Sever, Chairwoman of the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), has called upon Kaja Kallas, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, to ensure the protection of Palestinian journalists in Gaza by the European Union and to grant immediate and independent access to the Strip for journalists from outside Gaza.
In a letter addressed to Kallas, Sever underscored that the presence of international journalists is "essential for transparency, accountability, and the public's right to know." She urged for immediate, independent, and unrestricted access for international media to Gaza, along with full protection for Palestinian journalists who continue to report under siege.
Sever stated, "On behalf of the 300,000 journalists represented by the European Federation of Journalists in Europe, we ask you to use all available diplomatic, legal, and economic measures to stop the ongoing atrocities, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, to ensure the immediate, sustainable, and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, and to ensure that journalists from outside Gaza are granted immediate and independent access to the Strip."
She emphasized that "the European Union must make greater efforts to stand up for justice. In a world where there is growing consensus that the Zionist army is committing genocide in Gaza, using relentless bombing and starvation, the European Union and its member states can no longer stand idly by."
