Lebanese army condemns Israeli attacks, continued ceasefire violations

Beirut – Saba:

The Lebanese Army Command has condemned the recent Israeli attacks on the southern suburbs of Beirut and southern Lebanon on Friday.

In a statement published by the National News Agency in Lebanon, the Army Command threatened to suspend cooperation with the Cessation of Hostilities Monitoring Committee regarding the identification of sites if the Israeli enemy continues its violations.

The Command stated that "the attacks came on the eve of the holidays in a clear attempt by the enemy to obstruct the advancement and recovery of our nation and its ability to benefit from the positive conditions available."

It added: "The Israeli enemy has recently escalated its attacks against Lebanon, targeting citizens, residential buildings, and facilities in various areas, the most recent of which was targeting sites in the southern suburbs of Beirut and the south last night.

This coincides with its occupation of Lebanese territory and its continued violations, which have turned into daily aggression against Lebanon's sovereignty, disregarding the ceasefire mechanism and the efforts of the Cessation of Hostilities Monitoring Committee."

The Army Command confirmed that, immediately after the Israeli enemy announced its threats, it began coordinating with the Cessation of Hostilities Monitoring Committee to prevent an attack. Patrols were dispatched to several sites to inspect them, despite the enemy's rejection of the proposal.

The Command reiterated its "commitment to implementing Resolution 1701 and the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement," noting that "the Israeli enemy's persistent violation of the agreement and its refusal to cooperate with the Cessation of Hostilities Monitoring Committee is nothing but a weakening of the role of the committee and the army, and is likely to push the military establishment to freeze cooperation with the Cessation of Hostilities Monitoring Committee regarding site inspections."

The Command noted that "the army faces the challenges with determination and resolve, and continues to perform its complex missions to extend the state's authority over all its territories and ensure the security of Lebanon and the Lebanese, based on its sacred national duty, which remains an absolute priority, no matter how difficult the situation."

On Thursday evening, the Israeli enemy launched an attack on Beirut's southern suburbs, the largest since the ceasefire agreement was reached. The attack targeted several residential buildings, while Israeli drones and warplanes carried out raids targeting the town of Ain Qana in the Nabatieh district.
