Gaza – Saba:
The Legal Department of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) has considered the sanctions imposed by the US administration against four (4) International Criminal Court judges to be unsurprising, especially since they came two days after the US administration vetoed a Security Council resolution calling for an end to the genocidal war perpetrated by Israeli fascism in the Gaza Strip.
This placed the US administration not only in confrontation with the 14 countries that voted in favor of the resolution, but also with the entire international community.
In a statement, it said: "This is not the first time the US administration has taken punitive measures against the International Criminal Court. The first Trump administration imposed sanctions on the court in 2020, which were then rescinded by the Biden administration in 2021.
The current administration has reimposed new sanctions on the court and its prosecutor, who were undeterred by the actions of Trump and his administration and prioritized legal and judicial considerations over all other considerations. The prosecutor issued arrest warrants against Netanyahu and his defense minister, and recently against Smotrich and Ben-Gvir."
The DFLP considered that the US administration's actions strip it of all the values it claims to defend, placing it in the position of defending the accused and criminal, and even encouraging them to continue their crimes. This confirms the reality of the United States' complicity in the war crimes committed in the Gaza Strip.
It emphasized that condemning Israel is a condemnation of the United States and all countries involved in these crimes. Therefore, it is working hard to obstruct the process of justice, which could extend to its soldiers accused of committing war crimes in Afghanistan.
DFLP added: "Targeting the International Criminal Court and other international judicial and legal frameworks not only affects the Palestinian people, their martyrs and wounded, their homes, and their destroyed public and private facilities, but also affects international justice in general."
The DFLP said: "The 125 member states of the Rome Statute are concerned with providing protection for the Court and its judges, and they are concerned with raising the level of confidence of the peoples of the world in the Court and its rulings, because the failure of the Court's efforts to achieve justice would negatively impact the investigations conducted by its judges into inevitable war crimes in more than one country."
It added: "The Legal Department of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, while commending the courage of the International Court's judges and their steadfastness and determination to continue their mission, calls on all members of the United Nations to affirm their commitment to the Court and its efforts to combat impunity, and to translate their political support into direct measures, including full cooperation with the Court regarding the arrest of those against whom arrest warrants have been issued."
The DFLP also calls for fortifying the court and its judges by forming a defensive wall against the blatant aggression they are subjected to by the United States and Israel, which affirm that they are sworn enemies of law, justice, and human rights. They can only be confronted through courageous individual and collective action, armed with the will of the International Criminal Court and its judges to prosecute war criminals in Palestine and around the world.
