Moscow - (Saba):
Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN Security Council, Vassily Nebenzia, stated that the Council's failure to adopt a draft resolution for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip revealed who wants peace and who continues to play "geopolitical games."
In his address to the UN Security Council, Nebenzia said: "Unfortunately, the Council has once again failed to reach a solution acceptable to all members and adopt a product that would have saved Gaza, and indeed the entire Middle East, from sliding into the abyss of chaos."
He added that Security Council members have another opportunity to see for themselves "who truly wants peace in the Middle East and who continues to play geopolitical games."
The Council failed on Wednesday to adopt a draft resolution calling for an "immediate, unconditional, and permanent" ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and demanding the lifting of all restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid to the Strip, after the United States used its veto.
All members of the UN Security Council (10 permanent members and four non-permanent members) voted in favor of the draft resolution, with the exception of the United States of America, which objected and used its veto.
