The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Tom Fletcher, on Wednesday urged Israeli authorities to allow large-scale entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip and lift restrictions on the type and quantity of that aid.
In a press statement, Fletcher stated that “Israel must allow the UN and humanitarian organizations the space to fully perform their relief roles,” according to Quds Press.
He added that there is a ready plan for the organized and safe distribution of aid within the Gaza Strip.
Fletcher also emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza as a critical step toward ending the humanitarian suffering.
Since October 7, 2023, and with U.S. and European support, the Israeli army has been committing acts of genocide in Gaza. The attacks have resulted in the deaths of 54,607 Palestinians, the majority of whom are children and women, and injured 125,341 others—figures that remain incomplete due to thousands still trapped under rubble or stranded in unreachable areas.
