New York - Saba:
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) confirmed that with the expansion of the Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip, less than 18% of the Strip's area remains as an area where civilians are permitted to live.
The rest of the area is either under direct Israeli control or considered evacuation zones and is subject to continuous bombardment.
According to the United Nations Information Center, on Monday, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) noted continued displacement throughout the Gaza Strip, with some 200,000 people displaced in the past two weeks alone.
The United Nations stated that the catastrophic situation in Gaza is the worst since the beginning of the war, with shelling continuing throughout the Strip, particularly in the north, where the last partially functioning hospital was forced to evacuate.
OCHA said humanitarian services in Gaza are among the most obstructed operations in the recent history of the global humanitarian response anywhere. Since last March, Israeli authorities have imposed a tight blockade on humanitarian aid and goods, allowing in the past two weeks what the United Nations described as "a drop in the ocean of needs" of specific supplies into the Gaza Strip.
The UN and its partners have been unable to deliver most of this limited aid to the population due to Israeli restrictions and insecurity. Much of what has entered the Strip has been looted by desperate residents, often seeking to feed their families.
