Bern - (Saba):
New footage shows the moment a devastating avalanche engulfed the entire Swiss village of Platten, destroying homes and leaving one resident dead.
According to local authorities, the resulting landslides covered nearly 90 percent of the village, home to around 300 people. The fate of one resident remains unknown.
The mayor expressed his shock, saying, "We have lost our village, but our will remains strong," highlighting the residents' determination to rebuild despite the difficulties.
Alerts had been sounded days earlier, allowing most residents and livestock to be evacuated. However, the scale of the disaster exceeded expectations, as massive blocks of ice collapsed from the Perch Glacier, carrying approximately three million cubic meters of rock and mud into the valley. Experts described the scene as "unprecedented" in the region's history.
