Gaza – Saba:
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has called for permission to carry out its work in delivering aid to the Gaza Strip, stating that the current assistance being sent constitutes a mockery of the collective tragedy.
In a statement issued on Friday, UNRWA reported that only 900 trucks had entered Gaza over the past two weeks, representing just over 10% of the daily needs of the people in the strip.
"The aid being sent now is a mockery of the unfolding collective tragedy before our eyes," the agency stressed.
UNRWA noted that during the ceasefire period, when bureaucratic and security restrictions were lifted due to political will, the UN, including UNRWA, was able to bring in 600 to 800 trucks daily, with no reported cases of aid misuse.
"In this way, we collectively changed the course of events and prevented a man-made famine," the statement added.
The agency emphasized that the current mass starvation can be stopped, but it requires political will.
"We are not asking for the impossible. Allow the UN, including UNRWA and our humanitarian partners, to do our job: helping those in need and preserving their dignity," UNRWA said.
On March 2, the enemy authorities closed Gaza's crossings to humanitarian, relief, and medical aid, leading to an unprecedented deterioration in the humanitarian situation.
