Jenin - (Saba):
Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz and head of the Northern West Bank Settlements Council, Yossi Dagan, stormed the Tarsala site near the town of Jaba', south of Jenin, on Friday.
The Palestinian News Agency reported that a large Israeli army force stormed the Tarsala site, accompanied by two helicopters, which landed in the plain area of the town of Ajja near the site. Israeli forces set up a checkpoint at the entrance to the town of Ajja, near Jaba', obstructing the movement of vehicles and searching them.
It noted that the Tarsala site, which was a settlement called "Sanur," was evacuated in 2005, along with the settlements of Homesh, Ganim, and Kadi, and the Dotan-Arraba military base.
This raid comes after the Israeli Cabinet revealed, about two weeks ago, that it had approved a plan to establish 22 new settlements in the West Bank, including the evacuated settlement of Sanur, which Katz and Dagan raided today. The occupation's plan includes approval to "regularize the legal status of nine existing settlement sites and transform them into officially recognized settlements, in addition to establishing new settlements in areas considered isolated deep within the West Bank." Among the targeted sites are Mount Ebal in Nablus, in addition to areas in the northern West Bank.
