Brussels - Saba:
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has described the Israeli bombing of a school sheltering displaced people in Gaza as "abhorrent" on Tuesday during a phone call with Jordan's King Abdullah II.
According to a transcript of the conversation published by the Commission, von der Leyen said, "The intensification of Israeli military operations in Gaza, targeting civilian infrastructure, including a school used as a shelter by displaced Palestinian families, and resulting in the deaths of civilians, including children, is abhorrent."
Von der Leyen warned that "this escalation and disproportionate use of force against civilians cannot be justified under international humanitarian law."
