Paris - Saba:
Three hundred French writers have called for a clear and precise description of what is happening in the Gaza Strip, stressing that simply describing the massacres as "horror" or "atrocities" is no longer sufficient, and that the time has come to call things by their proper names: "genocide."
In a letter published by Libération, the signatories emphasized that silence is no longer a neutral position, but rather complicity in the crime. They stated that words play a pivotal role in resisting erasure and mass displacement.
The writers demanded sanctions against Israel, an immediate ceasefire, justice for Palestinians, the release of Israeli prisoners, the release of thousands of arbitrarily detained Palestinian prisoners, and an immediate halt to what they described as the ongoing "genocide."
They added in the letter that since the Israeli occupation violated the ceasefire on March 18, it has escalated its aggression against Gaza, resulting in the deaths of more than 3,800 Palestinians and the injury of nearly 11,000.
The letter noted that writers in Gaza are the bearers of memory and the documenters of truth, and that their assassination represents a form of censorship and cultural erasure. They emphasized that words are being targeted today, just as bodies are, and that defending them is a defense of truth and humanity.
