New York - Saba:
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) revealed on Tuesday a severe food crisis in the Gaza Strip, with approximately 250,000 Palestinians suffering from severe hunger in Phase 5 of food insecurity, the most serious stage of hunger, while approximately 950,000 people face the risk of famine in Phases 4 and 5.
UNRWA said in a statement on Tuesday that 250,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have reached Phase 5 of food insecurity, the most severe stage, where people are exposed to extreme hunger and lack the most basic nutritional requirements.
The agency added that approximately 950,000 citizens are at grave risk, as they are classified as Phases 4 and 5 of food insecurity, placing them at imminent risk of famine.
UNRWA confirmed that malnutrition has become widespread, affecting hundreds of thousands of children, mothers, infants, and pregnant women, amid a severe shortage of food supplies and humanitarian aid. She noted that approximately 70,000 children are suffering from severe malnutrition, which could lead to serious, long-term health consequences, given the collapse of the health system and the difficulty of accessing aid.
