Geneva - Saba:
Swiss authorities have announced that they are examining whether to launch a legal investigation into the activities of the Gaza Relief Foundation, a U.S.-backed organization planning to oversee the distribution of aid in Gaza Strip.
This move comes after a Swiss NGO submitted a request on Sunday to investigate the Gaza Relief Foundation’s aid distribution plan, which has been opposed by the United Nations. The UN stated that the plan is "not impartial or neutral and will lead to further displacement and endanger thousands of people."
On Friday, Trial International, a Switzerland-based NGO, said it had submitted two legal memos urging Swiss authorities to investigate whether the Gaza Relief Foundation, registered in Switzerland, complies with domestic and international humanitarian law.
The organization also requested that the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs clarify whether the Gaza Relief Foundation legally disclosed its use of private security companies for aid distribution and whether Swiss authorities had approved such arrangements.
