Islamabad/New Delhi - (Saba):
Pakistan and India have agreed to redeploy their forces to their normal positions along the border in Kashmir by May 30.
Following the US-brokered ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and India on May 10, Islamabad and New Delhi have taken another step to de-escalate tensions, according to Pakistani Geo News, citing officials who preferred to remain anonymous.
The officials stated that following the ceasefire, Pakistan and India agreed to redeploy their forces to their normal positions along the Line of Control in Kashmir in phases until May 30.
Following India's attacks on Pakistan on May 6 and the escalation of tensions between the two countries, soldiers from both countries were moved from their normal positions along the Kashmir border to positions closer to the de-escalation line.
On May 7, clashes erupted between Pakistan and India after the latter launched missile attacks on Pakistani territory and the Azad Kashmir region controlled by Islamabad. This followed a terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which left 26 dead.
On May 10, Pakistan and India announced a ceasefire agreement, brokered by the United States, following days of mutual escalation along the border.
