A training course in the field of occupational health and safety for cleaning sector workers commenced on Monday in the Capital Secretariat.
The course is organized by the Cleaning and Improvement Fund of the Secretariat in cooperation with Al-Razi University.
Over three days, the course aims to educate 160 workers and cleaning supervisors on the fundamentals of occupational safety in the work environment, the risks faced by cleaning workers, and preventive measures to ensure their health and safety.
During the inauguration, Hammoud Al-Naqeeb, head of the Social Affairs Committee in the Capital Secretariat, emphasized the importance of such training courses in raising environmental awareness and promoting a culture of occupational safety among cleaning workers. He praised the support of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in the field of cleanliness and other service sectors within the Secretariat.
Al-Naqeeb affirmed that cleaning workers deserve utmost attention, healthcare, and professional care to ensure their well-being, in recognition of their tremendous efforts in maintaining the cleanliness of the Capital Secretariat's streets and neighborhoods, as well as protecting residents from the spread of diseases and epidemics.
He stressed the need to establish the principles and methods of occupational health and safety as a permanent culture and behavior among all workers, especially cleaning staff, given their vital role in serving the community and enhancing the aesthetic appearance of the capital.
For his part, Muhammad Sharafuddin, Executive Director of the Cleaning and Improvement Fund in the Capital Secretariat, stated that this course is part of efforts to improve the work environment for cleaning and environmental sector personnel, under a project supporting the Fund in various fields in partnership with UNOPS. He described cleaning workers as soldiers defending the health and safety of millions of Sana'a’s residents.
He urged trainees to benefit from the knowledge provided during the course and to take responsibility for sharing it with their colleagues in the field, raising awareness of the importance of occupational safety to protect themselves from diseases. He also acknowledged Al-Razi University’s role in hosting the training.
Meanwhile, Dr. Khalil Al-Wajeeh, President of Al-Razi University, affirmed the university’s readiness to cooperate with the Capital Secretariat , the Cleaning Fund in any activities , training programs that contribute to developing services , maintaining the health and occupational safety of workers in this vital sector.
